Lunch & Learn: Maryland’s New Laws and Their Impact on Sexual Assault Survivors

During the 2023 legislative session, MCASA continued to advocate in Annapolis for the needs of sexual assault survivors and the programs that serve them. Long-standing priorities were finally passed and new initiatives met with success.

Join MCASA’s Executive Director, Lisae C. Jordan, Esq., on Wednesday, November 1st at 12pm for a presentation on new laws and how they impact sexual assault survivors, as well as a preview of some of  MCASA’s legislative priorities for the upcoming 2024 legislative session.

This Lunch and Learn debrief will highlight important new laws related to sexual assault prevention and response.  This includes information on the repeal of marriage as a defense to sex crimes, elimination of the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse survivors, Maryland’s new safe harbor for minor victims of sex trafficking, and more.

*Note that this presentation fulfills MCASA Advocacy and Legal Service Program Standard that requires attorneys, legal advocates, and advocates providing hospital accompaniment to receive annual updates on changes to laws regarding victim rights and sexual assault forensic exams.*
